Vermont is a special place to start or expand a business. Vermont is the home of many high technology companies like IBM and specialty food businesses like Ben and Jerry's Homemade. In addition to these nationally known companies, Vermont is the home of many thriving, innovative small businesses. In fact, over 95% of businesses in Vermont employ fewer than 50 employees. Vermont also offers a unique quality of life for employers and employees because it is one of the safest and cleanest states in the United States.

In addition, Vermont is the most gay-friendly state in the country. On July 1, 2000, Vermont became the first state to legally recognize civil unions for same sex couples.
